Hi, I'm Adam Illes, MD of Eco-Renovation UK.
Since 2008, when I started my renovation company, I've advocated energy-efficiency improvements and insulation for my clients. At the time it wasn't an easy job; people weren't really hearing much about insulation, and renovations were more about superficial refurbishments and alterations.
After I did a hempcrete insulation course in Bristol, I fell in love with the beauty and the benefits of the product, and decided to specialise the company in renovations with sustainable materials, to help deliver more energy-efficient buildings.
That led me to further training. I became a Domestic Energy Assessor and a Retrofit Assessor, but I did so to strengthen my knowledge of the details needed to achieve better outcomes in deeper renovations. I went looking for every sustainable material we could use through a renovation, and found Ecological Building Systems and Diathonite, PYC and cellulose, good lime products, wood fibre and other natural insulation suppliers.
Since then the industry and the market have changed considerably. Many more companies now offer ecological building products, and ecology, energy efficiency, airtightness and insulation are widely discussed. People also understand why insulation matters, and why sustainable sources are preferable to petrochemicals.
Though we're busy with meaningful work, we've chosen to stay small, with no plans to grow. We feel that's how we can give our clients the best service.
“Adam and his whole team were fantastic. Extremely professional and easy to work with. The end result is perfect and we would recommend Adam and Eco renovation to anyone.”Owen J
We're based in Hemel Hempstead and most of our work is within about an hour of it, across London, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. St Albans, Harpenden, Berkhamsted, Chesham, Amersham, Watford and Rickmansworth, and most of north London.
We've travelled further when a job has been the right sort of job, so if you're a little outside that, do just ask.
Alongside the renovation work we also build extensions and new structures in ecological materials, using hempcrete, timber frame and lime. It isn't the main part of what we do, but if that's what you're after then do get in touch and we can talk it through.
This page is about us. If you'd rather read about the work we take on, start with one of these.
If you'd like to get in touch, or you have a question about your own project, fill this in and we'll come back to you.
