The first hempcrete house in West Hungary, cast wet on site. Hemp shiv arrived in jumbo bags, was measured out by the bucket, and mixed with lime in a forced action mixer next to the building.
The timber structure went up first, then mesh and battens to hold the mix in place, then the hempcrete was cast into shutters and compacted by hand, lift by lift. One corner is curved, formed in a shaped shutter. When the shutters came off the walls came out with the hemp fibre still visible in the surface, and the outside was clad in timber.
Eco-Renovation UK recently put up the hempcrete structures for our timber frame project. Such a new sustainable technology requires a a new approach to building and out-of-the-box thinking, and the Eco-Renovation team far exceeded my expectations. They were not only fast and precise in their everyday tasks, but their holistic understanding of the building process led to a number of new solutions. I'd certainly recommend them for any sustainable construction works.
